This 2003 BMW 540i Sport Wagon is finished in black over black leather and is powered by a replacement 4.9-liter S62 V8 paired with a six-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. Equipment includes the M Sport package, 18″ Style 65 wheels, xenon headlights, Bilstein shocks, H&R springs, dual-zone automatic climate control, Park Distance Control, and a BMW Business stereo as well as an M5 wiring harness, instrument cluster, fuel system, front seats, and brakes. The car was imported to the US from Canada by the seller in June 2019 and subsequent service is said to have consisted of replacing the rear subframe bushings, clutch kit, rear main seal, timing chain tensioner, oil level and temperature sensors, differential bearings, and tires.
The car is finished in black and features M sport-specific bodywork including revised bumper covers and Shadowline window trim. Additional equipment includes roof rails, a glass sunroof, E39 M5 side mirrors and trim, rain-sensing wipers, parking sensors, fog lights, xenon headlights, a rear wiper, and quad exhaust outlets. The seller notes the hood, front bumper, and driver-side fender were repainted in 2011 following an accident.
Shadow Chrome 18″ Style 65 wheels are wrapped in Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires measuring 245/40 up front and 265/35 out back that were mounted during current ownership. The suspension is reportedly fitted with Bilstein shocks and H&R springs, and braking is said to be handled by E39 M5 disc brakes and calipers.
The interior features heated and power-adjustable M5 seats upholstered in Black leather along with Titan trim accents on the center console, dashboard, and door panels. The M Sport package added a black headliner and M door sills in addition to dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, a power-adjustable steering column, a leather-wrapped M shift knob, M5 leather-wrapped center console and rearview mirror, a euro-style armrest, and a BMW Business stereo with an auxiliary input.
The instrument cluster was transferred from the donor M5 and features a 155-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The digital odometer shows 251k kilometers (~156k miles).
The aluminum 4.9-liter S62 V8 was reportedly sourced from a 2001 E39 M5 along with the wiring harness, fuel system, and ECU. Service performed during current ownership is said to have included replacing the timing chain tensioner, rear main seal, oil level and temperature sensors, power steering hoses, thermostat, and spark plugs.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission, driveshaft, and a limited-slip differential that are said to be sourced from an E39 M5. The seller notes the rear subframe bushings, clutch, shift lever, shifter bushings, and differential bearings and seals were replaced under current ownership. The exhaust system features M5 catalytic converters and modifications were made to the underbody to accommodate the dual exhaust system.
