This 1965 Austin Mini Cooper S is a left-hand-drive example that was built on February 26, 1965 and delivered new to Fort Worth, Texas. It is said to have spent a number of years in storage prior to its acquisition by the seller in 1996. Subsequent refurbishment included a repaint in red with a black roof as well as a rebuild of the numbers-matching 1,275L inline-four. Additional equipment includes a four-speed manual transaxle, red vinyl upholstery with patterned gold inserts, a stainless-steel exhaust system, dual fuel tanks and SU carburetors, sliding side windows, and 10” steel wheels with chrome hubcaps.
Factory-finished in Tartan Red with a black roof, the car was reportedly fitted with a replacement driver-side front fender prior to a repaint approximately 25 years ago. Features include a driver’s side-view mirror, dual fuel fillers, exposed hinges, sliding side windows, and chrome bumpers with overriders.
The 10” cream-painted steel wheels feature polished hubcaps and are wrapped in Yokohama Advan HF Type-D tires sized 165/70. Braking is through front discs with finned rear drums, and the car rides on a Hydrolastic suspension system.
The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in red vinyl with patterned gold inserts along with matching door panels and red carpets. Amenities include an under-dash heater as well as map pockets in both doors.
A wood-rimmed three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 120-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge flanked by auxiliary displays for coolant temperature and oil pressure. A 7k-rpm VDO tachometer is mounted under the dash, and the five-digit odometer shows just under 74k miles.
he 1,275L inline-four was reportedly rebuilt, bored .040” over, and fitted with a Mini Sport 12G940 cylinder head, PowerMax pistons, and dual SU HS4 carburetors mounted to a Mini Sport intake manifold. The radiator, water pump, fuel pump, and wiring harness are said to have been replaced, and the removed cylinder head, exhaust manifold, camshaft, rocker assembly, and carburetors will aLompany the vehicle. Additional equipment includes the following:
