This 1958 BMW Isetta was acquired by the seller from Germany in 2009 following a refurbishment under previous ownership, and was subsequently imported to the US where it sold to its current owner in 2020. Power is from a 247L single paired with a four-speed manual transaxle, and the car is finished in red and white over a red and gray interior. Features include a canvas sunroof, sliding side windows, a luggage rack, and a single front door with a windshield wiper. The carburetor was cleaned, the fuel tank sealed, and the battery replaced in 2018.
Bodywork is said to have been repainted in red with a white top under previous ownership while in Germany. The car features a black canvas sliding sunroof, a chrome rear luggage rack, amber side markers, a single windshield wiper, a rearview mirror on the left, and dual round external headlights.
White 10″ steel wheels feature two-piece construction and are affixed with four lugs apiece. Suspension consists of coil springs up front and leaves in the rear. Braking is from hydraulically-actuated drums at three of the four wheels.
The cabin is aLessed via a single side-hinged door and features a bench seat upholstered in red cloth as well as gray side panels and a black rubber floor mat. Equipment includes a shifter mounted on the left wall in addition to sliding side windows, a sun visor, and a rearview mirror.
A horizontal steering wheel frames a reverse-sweep VDO speedometer containing a five-digit odometer that shows 21k kilometers (~13k miles), a handful of which have been driven under current ownership.
The air-cooled 247L four-stroke single is a modified version of the powerplant found in the BMW R27 motorcycle, and produced 12 horsepower when new. Service in 2018 consisted of sealing the fuel tank, rebuilding the tank valves, and cleaning the carburetor as well as replacement of the battery and several intake components.
Power is routed to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transaxle, a Hardy disc, a duplex chain, and a solid axle.
A tool kit and a copy of the previous German Fahrzeugbrief are included in the sale.
